Highlights: Katie’s interest in development work began with her studies as an Asian and Middle Eastern Cultures major with a concentration in South Asian Studies at Barnard College. Additionally, Junior year Katie also took the opportunity to study abroad in New Delhi where she conducted field research for her undergraduate thesis on the role of contemporary Indian dance in India’s women’s rights movements. Since graduating from college, Katie has been working as an Assignment Editor for a small photojournalism production company called Against All Odds on their upcoming book “The Human Face of Big Data.” Inspired by the incredible people and organizations she has researched and interviewed for the book who work in development using big data, Katie is now ready to jump into the development field herself. During her fellowship Katie hopes to gain an understanding of the challenges that face public health, education, and micro-finance to create actionable insight and positive change.
