Why Community Events Matter
Working within underserved communities in cities and rural regions across India, AIF has witnessed firsthand the power of people coming together to catalyze long-term social impact. This belief in the strength of community drives us to regularly organize nonprofit fundraising events that connect the Indian diaspora in the US not only to each other but also to shared causes that foster a collective sense of purpose.
These events offer opportunities for philanthropy and community engagement that deepen our community’s close connection to India – and provide a platform for action that creates lasting impact.

Here are five things you’ll take away from AIF’s India Mission Trip:
The Power of AIF’s Community Events
Special community events are a key aspect of our work, blending mission-driven impact with opportunities for connection. Our charity fundraising events provide a platform for influential donors and changemakers to inspire their networks, build community, and deepen their commitment to India’s future.
By offering avenues for philanthropy and community engagement, these events help cultivate a sense of belonging among those who want to give back meaningfully — and provide a powerful way to stay involved throughout the year.
AIF’s flagship community events include:
- Charity Fundraiser Galas: Held in the Bay Area, Chicago, New England, and New York, these nonprofit galas unite our donor community and celebrate leadership, philanthropy, and social impact.
- Charity Golf Tournaments: Each fall, AIF hosts charity golf tournaments in New York, offering donors a playfully competitive way to raise funds.
- Fundraising “Melas” and Picnics: Different stakeholder groups across chapters host innovative fundraisers that keep the ‘fun’ element strong, bringing the community together while supporting specific programs.
4 Ways Charity Fundraising Events Build Community Through Giving
- By Showcasing Beneficiaries:
AIF’s charity fundraising events are an opportunity to experience the tangible ways in which AIF has transformed the lives of beneficiaries–and to help donors strengthen their connection with those they support. Alongside a breakdown of how far their charitable dollars can go, stories of individuals directly empowered by our programs help attendees recognize their role in creating significant social impact.

AIF aims to bring our beneficiaries to the galas so that they can tell their own stories to the audience, highlighting the change brought about in their lives. One such individual was Pushpanjali Majhi, a LAMP beneficiary belonging to the Gond tribe from Nuapada district, Odisha, who defied adversity to become a government high school teacher. Pushpanjali’s parents were landless laborers who migrated to Andhra Pradesh for six months every year to work in brick kilns. Her life took a turn for the better when she was given the opportunity to stay in a hostel established by AIF and Lokadrusti in her village. In 2015, AIF invited her as a speaker to share her story at the Chicago gala, where she addressed an audience of over 300 people, including CEOs of Fortune 500 companies and eminent personalities. She has also spoken at events in Boston, New York, and Atlanta, and has been invited as a speaker at the San Francisco Gala.
At the Bay Area Gala in 2023, AIF highlighted inspiring women-centered stories, one of which was that of Sonia Kumari, a young woman from Rewari, Haryana, who couldn’t find a job until she underwent AIF’s Green Jobs training to become a mechanic for Hero Electric Vehicles. This landed her a career opportunity that transformed her self-confidence, ambition, earning potential, and, by extension, the fortune of her family.
At the AIF New York 2025 Gala, AIF organized a 360° Virtual Reality station that showcased MANSI 3.0 in a Jharkhand village. It allowed the donors to view the day-to-day life of a MANSI didi and see their contributions in action. These stories highlight not just how many lives are impacted, but how agents of change work each day to support communities.
- By Honoring Changemakers:
From Roshni Nadar Malhotra (Chairperson, HCLTech) to Anu Bharadwaj (President, Atlassian), Michael Miebach (CEO, Mastercard), Arvind Krishna (CEO, IBM), dozens of other trailblazing corporate leaders, and breakout comedian Zarna Garg, AIF’s nonprofit fundraising events bring together globally recognized Indian-American leaders across industries, offering attendees the invaluable opportunity to learn, connect, and be inspired by these changemakers.
- By Creating Valuable Social Connections :
Events like our charity golf tournaments create space for connection through sport, community-building, and networking among both seasoned and occasional philanthropists – all the while raising critical funds for AIF’s programs.
- By Connecting with AIF Leadership:
Meeting the people behind the programs matters. AIF’s special events give donors the chance to engage with AIF leadership and better understand the passion, strategy, and accountability driving our mission.
Are you ready to get involved? Meet with AIF leadership and other committed donors at one of our upcoming nonprofit fundraising events.
