AIF Honores Ajay Banga, Amartya Sen, Radhika and Prannoy Roy at Fundraising Gala in New York

Beautiful people in beautiful surroundings to support a beautiful cause! The American India Foundation’s (AIF) annual spring gala in Manhattan at the Sheraton hotel was a power-packed evening with over 580 movers and shakers from the world of business, arts and philanthropy. AIF, whose honorary chair is Bill Clinton, has impacted the lives of more than 1.7 million of India’s poor. This glittering gala was chaired by Chip Kaye, co-president of Warburg Pincus LLC. Sheila Dharmarajan, markets reporter for Bloomberg Television, was the emcee for the evening.

Guests had come in from India, California, Boston and Chicago, all for a cause, and welcoming them was Pradeep Kashyap, vice president of AIF and the AIF board members—Lata Krishnan, Victor Menezes, Dinesh Paliwal and Arvind Raghunathan. Menezes who is the founding chair was recently elected as chair emeritus of the AIF.

New York society had come to felicitate the honorees—Ajay Banga, president and CEO, MasterCard; Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, professor of economics and philosophy at Harvard University; and from India, Radhika and Prannoy Roy, executive co-chairpersons, NDTV.

The evening had a musical performance by noted jazz pianist Vijay Iyer, dinner by Jehangir Mehta who is the chef at renowned restaurants like Mehtaphor and Graffiti, followed by a plush silent auction which included a cricket bat signed by Shah Rukh Khan.
