New Delhi, November 14 2014:
The past few weeks have generated a buzz on the nationwide cleanliness campaign, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. American India Foundation has initiated a cleanliness drive in schools through the Digital Equalizer program. This activity began in 50 schools across India on 14 November 2014, which is celebrated as Children’s Day in India. Over the next few months, it will roll out to all 957 schools across 8 States in India that the Digital Equalizer program works in.
Students of all age groups participated in the drive by taking the Swachh Vidyalaya pledge during school assembly, followed by cleanliness activities in which they were provided with gloves, caps, bins and brooms.
The Swachh Vidyalaya pledge is: On this day I take this pledge to keep my school and environment clean. I will not litter nor let others litter. I am confident that every step I take towards cleanliness will help in making my country clean.
Swachh Vidyalaya will make Swachh Bharat. Jai Hind.
Driving this activity is the AIF Digital Equalizer team. Says CEO M.A. Ravi Kumar, “It is imperative to encourage a culture of cleanliness in children at a young age. We would like to see the AIF Swachh Vidyalaya drive translate into real social change on the ground. I’m delighted that our Digital Equalizer team has initiated this drive in 50 schools across India and plan to roll it out to 957 schools in 8 States over the next month.”
AIF’s major contribution to education development in the country is through its signature program- Digital Equalizer. It is primarily a 3 year Techno-Pedagogy program that focuses on integrating technology as a pedagogical tool to enhance the teaching-learning process in our educational institutions. As on date, the Digital Equalizer program has covered 3100 schools across 14 states in India, touching 56000 teachers and 850000 plus students.
