Sudnya Shroff ‘s Art Show – Focus2016
On a beautiful Saturday evening on May 14th, Sudnya Shroff, renowned Indian-American artist, author of the book Unravelling and a good friend of mine along with her husband Nickhil Jakatdar, CEO and Co-founder of Vuclip, hosted a magnificent show, featuring art to support AIF’s Learning and Migration Program (LAMP). LAMP provides access to quality education opportunities to children in areas of high migration, while also advocating to communities and governments the universal right to education.
I was mesmerized to see the way Sudnya, her friends and family organized such a wonderful event, which was attended by AIF supporters, friends, and board members. Over $30,000 was raised at this pleasurable evening with generous contributions by friends and supporters, who loved her creative art, and also admired the work AIF is doing in the philanthropic space to fight poverty by creating opportunities for the underprivileged in India. Lata Krishnan, the Founder and Co-Chair of AIF, kicked off the event by talking about AIF and its commitment to empowering children of Indian migrant workers through LAMP. Lata also recognized Sudnya and Nickhil for their commitment to philanthropy and helping those most in need in India.
Sudnya then spoke about the value of LAMP and how she has spent time at LAMP learning resource centers in Orissa, India. “I wanted to see how can I best use my skills and artwork for these children in the program, who seemed so interested in learning and going to school,” said Sudnya. “I spent some time in the fields with my friends, working and painting the resource centers.” She had an amazing experience in India and thinks very high of the collaborative work that AIF is doing on ground with support of public-private partnerships and community by large.
The event was a great example, set up by a family, who not only truly believes in the virtues of philanthropy and giving back to the society but also reflected the value of having supportive friends and family. Starting from the welcoming arrival of guests to great food displays and soothing live music, the event was an overwhelming success.
Such events are a great example of the love we share as one society and the meaningful difference we can make in the lives of people who most need our thoughts and generous actions. I would like to personally thank and appluad Sudnya and Nickhil for not only hosting this great event, but also being great supporters of AIF, and helping us achieve our mission in India.
