Highlights: As part of the 26th class of Banyan Impact Fellows, Janak is working in New Delhi for AIF Livelihoods and Climate Change. During his Fellowship, he will work on connecting young Indian professionals to India’s green economy, helping them find employment and opportunities in this fast-growing sector. Prior to the Fellowship, Janak worked for the U.S. Department of the Interior on land resource management at Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge, an 850,000-acre land preserve in the Sonoran Desert. He has also worked at the intersection of environmental policy and law, both as a paralegal for Hogan Lovells and as an intern for Our Children’s Trust, a nonprofit climate litigation group. At his latest position, Janak worked in project finance for the Connecticut Green Bank, the first state-operated bank in the U.S. dedicated exclusively to funding clean energy projects. In May of 2025, Janak graduated from Columbia University, receiving a major in philosophy with a concentration in mathematics. He also pursued significant coursework in sustainable development, taking classes in energy and environmental law at Columbia Law School. Outside of school and work, Janak’s favorite hobby is soccer. He also enjoys coaching aspiring soccer players, teaching them how to pass, dribble, and most importantly, score! When he is not kicking the ball, you will likely find him going for hikes or taking a stroll around the neighborhood. He is especially excited to explore New Delhi and all it has to offer.
