In 2020, AIF quickly pivoted to address the critical situation in India and the United States. In India, AIF leveraged its programs’ infrastructure on health, education, and livelihoods via its wide network to address the needs of the nation with ventilators, PPE, and other interventions in order to save the lives of vulnerable Indians from COVID-19. Read the report here.

In 2021, India recorded the world’s highest daily tally of 314,835 COVID-19 infections on April 22nd, as this second wave sent many more into a fragile health care system, critically short of hospital beds and oxygen. Working with our partners, hospitals, and governments, AIF has launched a three-pronged Phase 2 Emergency Response Strategy to address this crisis. Here is an overview.

The American India Foundation is committed to improving the lives of India’s underprivileged, with a special focus on women, children, and youth. AIF does this through high impact interventions in education, health, and livelihoods, because poverty is multidimensional. AIF’s unique value proposition is its broad engagement between communities, civil society, and expertise, thereby building a lasting bridge between the United States and India. With offices in New York and California, twelve chapters across the U.S., and India operations headquartered in Delhi NCR, AIF has impacted 6.7 million lives across 26 states of India.

Dear Friends of AIF:

We hope that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy and remain so during this difficult time.

We cannot be more disappointed that our annual Gala has been canceled but the team has put together fabulous video footage of our honoree of the year- Vivek Ranadive and our beneficiary, Pooja Vijay Upadhyay which will leave you inspired beyond words. Additionally, our creative in-house talent has put together a wonderful animation that describes the impact we have achieved over the years with your incredible support. Not all of this production is professional, but it is the best we could do in this very short period.

We understand that nothing can take the place of a fun-filled evening with friends and colleagues to celebrate our achievements and get together for a cause we believe in but we hope you will take fifteen minutes out of your busy lives to review the material we have put together and hope this inspires you to continue and increase your support in these trying times.

Hearty congratulations to Vivek Ranadive: Silicon Valley mogul, first Indian American to own an NBA team, a generous philanthropist and a dear friend to so many of us.  We shall find a time to celebrate Vivek at a later time in the year.

Again, our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for your support over so many years. A  special thank you to our sponsors for the year. The Board would also like to take this opportunity to thank the entire AIF team under the superb leadership of Nishant Pandey, for their exemplary commitment and dedication to the most underprivileged individuals in India.

Warm Regards,

Lata Krishnan
AIF Co-Founder & Board of Directors Co-Chair
