Alleviating the disproportionate impact of disasters

Humanitarian Relief

Our history

Born in the aftermath of the Gujarat earthquake in 2001, as a humanitarian initiative championed by Bill Clinton and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, AIF has been leading humanitarian assistance and development initiatives for the past 21 years.

AIF prioritizes timely strategic aid during disasters and has delivered relief operations with swiftness, agility, and large-scale collaborations to serve those at the margins and help them emerge from the crisis. We have mobilized resources from corporates, NGOs, and local governments, including the Indian diaspora in the US, to address the root causes of the inequities brought to light by humanitarian disasters.

Our Purpose

AIF aspires to strengthen localized philanthropic and development models to address and alleviate the disproportionate impact of social, economic, and natural disasters on disadvantaged and vulnerable communities across India.

Our efforts have historically focussed on fighting systemic shortfall and inequality for the poor and vulnerable and rebuilding their lives through high-impact education, health, and livelihood interventions to help them move toward a resilient and inclusive recovery.

Our Work

The First Million

The First Million initiative was a priority COVID-19 vaccination for a million most vulnerable Indians during the desperate pandemic time of acute scarcity of medical resources.

The initiative was stretched across 26 states and over 2000 villages and benefited vulnerable communities of persons with disabilities and caregivers, migrant workers including street vendors, sex workers, disadvantaged women, and persons from tribal communities.
