In 2020, AIF quickly pivoted to address the critical situation in India and the United States. In India, AIF leveraged its programs’ infrastructure on health, education, and livelihoods via its wide network to address the needs of the nation with ventilators, PPE, and other interventions in order to save the lives of vulnerable Indians from COVID-19. In 2021, India recorded the world’s highest daily tally of 314,835 COVID-19 infections on April 22nd, as this second wave sent many more into a fragile health care system, critically short of hospital beds and oxygen. Working with our partners, hospitals, and governments, AIF has launched a three-pronged Phase 2 Emergency Response Strategy to address this crisis. Here is an overview.

The American India Foundation is committed to improving the lives of India’s underprivileged, with a special focus on women, children, and youth. AIF does this through high impact interventions in education, health, and livelihoods, because poverty is multidimensional. Vivek J Bantwal

Vivek is chief operating officer of the Securities Division. He serves as a member of the Firmwide Capital Committee, the Firmwide Investment Policy Committee and he is an investment champion for Launch With GS, Goldman Sachs’ $500 million commitment to invest in companies and investment managers with diverse leadership. Vivek also serves as the firmwide captain of the University of Pennsylvania analyst Recruiting Team. Previously, he was co-head of the Americas Credit Finance Group, overseeing the firm’s Leveraged Finance and Structured Finance businesses. Prior to that, Vivek was head of Structured Finance until 2016. He joined Goldman Sachs in 1999 and worked in Structured Finance until 2004, before joining the Natural Resources Financing Group. Vivek became a vice president in 2004 and was named managing director in 2007 and partner in 2012.

He serves on the Undergraduate Executive Board of the Wharton School at the
University of Pennsylvania, the Board of Directors of Seeds of Peace, the Leadership Council of the Mindich Child Health and Development Institute at Mount Sinai, and the Tri-State Area Board for the American India Foundation.

Vivek earned a BS in Economics, magna cum laude, from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
