AIF is pleased to announce a new focus on
Market Aligned Skills Training for Persons with Disabilities –
and a plan to prioritize the skills and
employment of India’s differently-abled.
According to the United Nations, India is home to 70 million disabled citizens, with more than 80% of them unemployed. Of those who do find work, a staggering 98.5% work in the informal sector, without income security or access to financial services. AIF has been providing skills training and advocating for the employment of persons with disabilities since 2010, as part of our larger commitment to improving the lives of marginalised communities and supporting inclusive development.

From January through March 26th 2014, through a partnership with Coca Cola and Network 18, AIF is participating in Campaign VEER – a television and digital initiative to raise awareness of the challenges faced by persons with disabilities, with particular focus on advocacy for their employment. VEER, which means “brave” in Hindi, aims to raise funds for skills training and employment support for more than 1,000 persons with disabilities, as well as generate awareness and advocate for inclusivity of people with disabilities in employment and in greater society. Bollywood actor Salman Khan, also known for his support of social causes through his NGO, Being Human, is Campaign VEER’s brand ambassador.
Rs. 7,500/$120 provides skills training and employment advocacy for one person with disabilities, but any amount can help us to increase awareness of the issues faced by India’s disabled. All funds raised by VEER will go directly to AIF’s Market Aligned Skills Training for Persons with Disabilities.
You can help create dignified livelihoods for India’s persons with disabilities by donating now.
