Chhattisgarh, September 2021: American India Foundation (AIF) with support from PNB Housing Finance Limited launched the 22ed mobile hospital in (District Hospital – Pandri, Raipur, Chhattisgarh). The facility has been installed by AIF as part of philanthropic efforts of PNB Housing Finance Limited towards COVID care.
The second wave, starting April 2021, was much more severe and challenged the public health system with extreme shortage of oxygen supplies resulting in unprecedented number of morbidities. To ensure future preparedness, there emerged a great need for augmentation of healthcare system including hospital beds equipped with Ventilators, Oxygen Concentrators and other medical supplies to build resilience during times of crises.
The newly upgraded facility in District hospital includes triage and treatment centers, of which 18 beds are in isolation units and 04 are in the intensive care unit (ICU). The addition of 22 new beds increases the hospital’s current capacity, boosting its ability to treat and care for those affected by COVID-19. The modular portable bed units designed by Modulus Housing have a 25-year durability and each unit can easily be deconstructed or repurposed as extra space for various community needs or disaster relief.
Prof. K. VijayRaghavan, Principal Scientific Adviser, Government of India, said, “Rapidly developing and implementing surge-capacity in our health-care system is an important ongoing effort all over the country. Government efforts are supplemented by partnership with industry and NGOs with an aim to refurbish existing hospital infrastructure to improve critical care. These include facilitating state governments’ systems in a manner uniquely required of them. The initiative by AIF is one such where a few hospitals are being launched and/or commence their functions this month. Keeping up the momentum, learning from these experiences, will be important to accomplish the goals of all such partnerships.”
“I am grateful to AIF and PNB Housing Finance for this initiative of portable beds. This will help us in saving lives and ensure better health for our citizens. The situation during the second wave of COVID-19 was heartbreaking, and the limited resources added to the helplessness. At such time, AIF came forward with the much-needed support through their initiatives. I cannot express the gratitude that I feel towards the outreach that AIF and PNB Housing Finance have provided to the state, ‘’ said Shri Tribhuvaneshwar Saran Singh Deo, Heath Minister, Chhattisgarh.
“To ensure sustainable relief and preparedness for future emergencies, AIF is working with state and local governments and other civil society organisations to provide critical aid in this crisis. Partnering with state governments to augment the health infrastructure is part of our core strategy for COVID-19 relief. We thank the government and PNB Housing for providing us with an opportunity to serve the people in critical need of intervention through these portable beds fitted with oxygen concentrators, ventilators and other medical supplies,” said Nishant Pandey, CEO, AIF.
